Wir dürfen dich beruhigen – du bist hier genau richtig.
Warum aber Tirol? Lass es uns kurz erklären:
Der Teil Tirols südlich des Brenners ging nach dem ersten Weltkrieg an Italien. Die deutsch- und ladinischsprachige Volksgruppe war plötzlich in einem fremden Staat, sah sich einer fremden Kultur und Sprache ausgesetzt und das ohne jemals gefragt worden zu sein.
Die deutsche Sprache wurde gänzlich verboten und das Ladinische wurde als ein italienischer Dialekt abgestempelt. Es drohte das Aussterben unserer Identität und Kultur durch systematische Überfremdung und Unterdrückung unseres Volkes. Jahrzehnte verstrichen ohne Besserung für uns Südtiroler. Erst spät in der zweiten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts musste Italien unserem Volk eine hart erkämpfte Autonomie zugestehen.
Bis heute ist dem Südtiroler Volk das Recht auf Selbstbestimmung verwehrt geblieben. Wir sind aber nach wie vor Tiroler.
Du befindest dich tatsächlich in Tirol, auch wenn es politisch auf zwei Staaten aufgeteilt ist. Die Olympischen Spiele sind eine friedensstiftende Großveranstaltung, die Menschen und Kulturen verbindet und im Geist von Gerechtigkeit, Respekt und Verständigung weltweite Aufmerksamkeit schafft. Daher sind diese Spiele für uns eine Chance, dich als Gast und die ganze Welt auf dieses nach wie vor bestehende Unrecht hinzuweisen.

We can reassure you – you are exactly where you should be.
But why Tyrol? Let us briefly explain.
The part of Tyrol south of the Brenner Pass was ceded to Italy after the First World War. The German- and Ladin-speaking population suddenly found itself in a foreign state, confronted with an unfamiliar culture and language – without ever having been asked.
The German language was completely banned, and Ladin was dismissed as merely an Italian dialect. Our identity and culture were threatened with extinction through systematic forced assimilation and oppression of our people. Decades passed without any improvement for us South Tyroleans. It was not until the late second half of the 20th century that Italy, after hard-fought struggles, was forced to grant our people autonomy.
To this day, the people of South Tyrol have been denied the right to self-determination. Yet we remain Tyroleans.
You are indeed in Tyrol, even though it is politically divided between two states. The Olympic Games are a peace-building global event that brings people and cultures together and draws worldwide attention in the spirit of justice, respect, and understanding. For this reason, these Games are an opportunity for us to show you, our guest, and the entire world, this injustice that still exists.

Possiamo rassicurarti – sei nel posto giusto.
Ma perché il Tirolo? Permettici di spiegartelo brevemente.
La parte del Tirolo a sud del Brenner passò all’Italia dopo la Prima guerra mondiale. La popolazione di lingua tedesca e ladina si ritrovò improvvisamente in uno Stato straniero, esposta a una cultura e a una lingua estranee, senza che le fosse mai stato chiesto il proprio parere.
La lingua tedesca fu completamente proibita e il ladino venne declassato a semplice dialetto italiano. La nostra identità e cultura rischiarono di scomparire a causa di una sistematica politica di snazionalizzazione e di oppressione del nostro popolo. Decenni passarono senza alcun miglioramento per noi sudtirolesi. Solo nella seconda metà del XX secolo l’Italia fu costretta a concedere, dopo dure lotte, un’autonomia al nostro popolo.
Ancora oggi al popolo sudtirolese viene negato il diritto all’autodeterminazione. Eppure, restiamo Tirolesi.
Ti trovi realmente in Tirolo, anche se politicamente diviso tra due Stati. I Giochi Olimpici sono una grande manifestazione di pace, capace di unire persone e culture e di attirare l’attenzione del mondo nello spirito di giustizia, rispetto e comprensione. Per questo motivo, questi Giochi rappresentano per noi un’occasione per mostrare a te, nostro ospite, e al mondo intero questa ingiustizia tuttora esistente.
